Small Businesses We Love and Why

We believe in cross pollination in the beautiful, vast forest of independent businesses, where folks like us have opted to branch off from the common stream and take a gambling venture unto the largely uncharted territory of hopes and visions coalescing. It takes real guts to break free from the promise of fixed income and the certainty that financial security tends to bring, but for some of us- it's the only way.
Whatever your path- as long as you're doing no harm and are happy at large- then by all means,

¡ándale!
There are many reasons why we here at PHD so strongly believe in supporting other small businesses. We appreciate the boost to the local economy. We love the idea of sticking it to the man, if you will.... or won't. We value individuals over corporations, for there is an accountability that is maintained in the ethics of business when it remains small enough to monitor and track. It is big businesses that are typically the major polluters, worker and wage exploiters, and waste generators.

The fashion industry is one of the major polluting industries in the world. The production and distribution of the crops, fibers, and garments used in fashion all contribute to differing forms of environmental pollution, including water, air, and soil pollution.  We highly recommend watching this well done movie to learn more about it. It's a game changer. We would like to continue exploring other industries and fine-tuning our own practices to be more and more environmentally friendly; a wonderful and far more control-able bi-product of running said small businesses. So, with no further ado, we present thee with a few businesses that we value so very much, and feel completely confident standing with their brands.

1. Yo Soy Candles is a special candle company with the mission to offer a clean burning, quality and eco-conscious candle with a unique element that encourages positive mindset and daily ritual through affirmation or I Am statements. We burn them at the studio and at home!
2. Torrain is a company that makes bags out of recycled materials, sourced from Cambodia and employs Cambodian artisans, helping to support their community. The bags are durable and stylish too. We own 3 and counting and regularly get compliments whilst traveling with them.
3. Tres Brujas is a skin care line that works with a synergetic system that heals and brings balance to your acid mantle using non-comedogenic face serums, oil cleaners and moisturizing toners – formulated from the highest quality ingredients in the world! Transform your skin today with the nourishing power of exceptional oils. These products are ultra high quality and help to define just what it means to care for yourself. So worth it.

Thanks so much for reading. We will continue to highlight other independent makers who we love, so please stay tuned for more exciting exposures and other tidbits that move us!

Cheers!
